सिकंदर  (२० जुलाई ३५६ ईसापूर्व से ११ जून ३२३ ईसा पूर्व) मकदूनियाँ, (मेसेडोनिया) का  ग्रीक  प्रशासक था। वह  एलेक्ज़ेंडर तृतीय  तथा  एलेक्ज़ेंडर मेसेडोनियन  नाम से भी जाना जाता है। इतिहास में वह सबसे कुशल और यशस्वी सेनापति माना गया है। अपनी मृत्यु तक वह उस तमाम भूमि को जीत चुका था जिसकी जानकारी प्राचीन ग्रीक लोगों को थी। इसीलिए उसे विश्वविजेता भी कहा जाता है। उसने अपने कार्यकाल में  इरान ,  सीरिया ,  मिस्र ,  मसोपोटेमिया , फिनीशिया, जुदेआ, गाझा,  बॅक्ट्रिया  और  भारत  में  पंजाब  तक के प्रदेश पर विजय हासिल की थी। उल्लेखनीय है कि उपरोक्त क्षेत्र उस समय  फ़ारसी  साम्राज्य के अंग थे और फ़ारसी साम्राज्य सिकन्दर के अपने साम्राज्य से कोई ४० गुना बड़ा था। फारसी में उसे  एस्कंदर-ए-मक्दुनी  (मॅसेडोनिया का अलेक्ज़ेंडर) औऱ  हिंदी  में सिकंदर महान कहा जाता है। यूनानी शासक सिकन्दर ने भारत पर आक्रमण ३२७ ई. पू. में किया। वह भारत आकर कुछ राज्यों में विजय प्राप्त करके वापस लौट रहा था, तब...
